Air-conditioning
Why is my air-conditioning switching off?
As you are likely aware, the air-conditioning is turning off intermittently after 7pm and we want to share some background as to why this is happening and how it supports a more sustainable energy system.
Iglu Summer Hill runs on a hybrid system that draws power from the grid and solar. The solar stops producing power from around 7pm and after this time, if the building consumption exceeds the maximum load, the system activates ‘load shedding’ to help manage demand efficiently.
As part of this, the system sends a signal to turn air-conditioning units off for 15 minutes. After this time, you will need to turn your unit back on manually – it won’t turn back on automatically.
Given the way the system works, this can sometimes occur multiple times during an evening as we have experienced with the recent high temperatures and air-conditioning units running at capacity. February and March are peak periods for this and as temperatures cool down, it is unlikely the system will continue to reach the maximum load.
We understand this can be frustrating, but this energy-conscious approach helps us reduce overall electricity consumption and reliance on fossil fuels. We’re also working to upgrade the amount of power we draw from the grid to improve the system.
Our team is here to answer your questions and happy to explain this in more detail so please come and chat with us at any time.
